June 25, 2008

Tonight was definitely more interesting than the norm.  We had to change our route last minute to avoid the huge crowd in Danvers Square for Oldies Night.  We started our run a few streets up turning the 5K into slightly under 3 miles.  We had beautiful weather and a good turnout of 29 people in spite of the no parking.

Tim Short took first last night with a time of 17:08.  Jay Molloy came in second with a time of 18:25 and Chris Soucy came in third with 18:44.  Great Job everyone!

Welcome to our new-b’s tonight (in order of running time).  Tom Milaschewski, Matt Duncan, Siobhan Stoney, Sarah Thomas, Jamie Scola, Danielia Phayre, and Brad Porter.

No PRs tonight in alight to the slight course change.  Although it was minimal and the runners did do great!

Here’s a few random pics of some of the runners last night.

Liam Brady leading the group to tonight’s new starting line.

Ready, Set, Go and there off…..

June 18, 2008

What a beautiful night for a run!  We had a slightly smaller turn out this week than usual with only 18 runners.

Trey Sullivan is a pretty speedy guy coming in first with a time of 19:43.  Chris Soucy was close behind with a time of 19:50, don’t forget the short shorts next week and you’ll be so much faster.  The amazing Billy Prentiss came in third with a time of 20:19.  Wow, don’t we all wish we had his stamina?

Welcome to our two new-b’s this week, Annie Rose and Steve Chase.  and a big congrats to those who set a new PR this week.  Trey Sullivan, Chris Soucy, Jeff Citroni, and Mike Hale.

Here are some random pic’s from the run.

Trey with Chris pretty close behind.  Way to go you two!

Billy even has enough energy to show some enthusiasm with the high fist up.

And shes still smiling, way to go Annie.

I do believe you are so fast that you are actually air-bourne!

Look at you three go, wow!  Great to see you again Rachel (with husband Caleb and son Jakob).

Just a little reminder to all that we appreciate all the cans that you bring in for the food Pantry and would like to see them still coming!

Just a little shout out to Aaron Toleos, Jen Howland, Crystal Sineath, and Liam Brady.  I hope you are all healed from your injuries and back to running soon!

Another quick reminder that I am walking in the NSMC Cancer Walk this weekend and all donations are very much appreciated.  Thank you so much to those of you have sponsored me.  Every dollar counts towards helping Salem Hospital better themselves for our loved ones.  If anyone else would be interested you can donate here firstgiving.com/dawnallinder.  Thanks so much!

Runner Profile: Chris Soucy

Chris has been with us since April 24 of this year, and believe it or not this was his first run.  He came in first place with a time of 20:28.  The next week he followed that withfirst again setting a new PR with a time of 20:00.  Pretty good for your first run, literally - his first ever!  He has always been pretty competitive, which is why when a friend of his, Mike, suggested running he jumped on it.  He went on-line, checked out coolrunning.com and found us.  He also did a great job in his first official race (The Hornet Hustle 5K in Reading) on June 1st placing 3rd in his division, and 9th all around.  Looks like hes a natural!  Chris played for the Eagle Tribune district for hockey #5, football #25, and baseball #15 all throughout school at North Reading High, senior year he was the captain of all three teams.  Ya, Id say that’s pretty competitive!  His lucky number is five, which must be why he was drawn to the Danvers 5k.

Chris is pretty laid back and easy to get a long with, or is that just because hes “done talking”?  In his free time he likes to catch an episode of Lost.  His favorite movies are The Gladiator and The 40-yr-old Virgin.  His favorite band would be Lincoln Park.  He has plenty of pet peeves, but none that he will confess to!  :)

Chris received his masters degree for accountancy from Bentley College in the summer of 2006.  He’s now been the accounting manager at Expediters International for the past year and a 1/2.

You can catch Chris at his next run at the Danvers Family Festival on Friday, June 27, 5:30 - Kiwanis 5 Mile

Runner Profile: Billy Prentiss

Billy has been a husband to his wonderful wife for 41 years, they have three children (Shawn, Andrea, and Adam) and six grandchildren.  As I am hearing back in the day Billy was quit the party animal.  However, now that hes all grown up he lives for his children and now especially for his grandchildren.  Seeing it first hand I can say that he is a spectacular Grandad and they just adore him.

Billy worked for Sylvania for 30 years, now he has been self-employed for the past 15.  He is the proud owner of “Sweet Williams Garden Center” and “Prentiss and Sons Landscaping Design”, which is located at 141 Pine St in Danvers.  They are a very close knit family and you will always find a few children’s smiling faces running with laughter through the beautiful flowers at the garden center.  They have made many areas in Danversjust stunning with their good eye and gorgeous plants.  Stop on buy and pick some up for your yard while the supplies last.

Billy has been with the Danvers Fun Run since the run started on November 28th 2007, which he came in first with a time of 20:22.  He has been running for 30 years, he has participated in a total of 43 marathons with 15 of those being the Boston.  The last race he ran was “Bostons Run To Remember”, which was and half marathon, 13.1 miles.  Out of 3,500 people he finished 1st in his age group with a time of 1:39:19.  Astounding job Billy!  He is also a member of the “Wicked Running Club”, now those are some fast guys!  He was brought into that group by, who is also pretty speedy, his brother-in-law Billy Shea.  Both of which just ran the Boston Marathon this year with times of, Prentiss 3:53:07 and Shea 3:58:33.

Billy is a great role model for the young runners, I wish I was in half the shape he is!
