Jan 28 2009 – D5K Slush Run

I don’t really know where to start or what to say about the run tonight.

I am certainly glad nobody got hurt, I really had my reservations about having the run tonight

Now that all that mother hen crap is out of the way, I applaud all of you for your

“total badassness”

I could really see it on all your faces after you finished. That “yah that was pretty sketchy, but really good at the same time” kind of expression. I am sure the beer tasted heavenly afterwards. I hope so, you earned it.

As warm and cozy as I was perched on my little high horse, there was a part of me that was really wanted to be out there in the elements in that way. You reach that point of saturation where being wet ceases to matter anymore and you can just laugh about it. Internally or externally, you can choose. It is a good moment.

Eleven out – Eleven in. Through the suck and the muck, Total Badasses.

It was great to see everyone this week.  We had a pretty good turn out of 15 runners, cold hold them down…. noway!!  We are also happy to have Billy Prentiss back up and running with us, Welcome Back Billy!!

Brett Rickenbauch came in 1st with a brisk 18:40,  James Pawlicki was on his tail with a time of 18:41.  Great job for your first run you two!  Scott Carrier came in 3rd with a time of 20:17.  Frank Lanzillo came in 4th this week with a time of  21:35.  And, Matt Adams took 5th with a time of 22:06.

Great job everyone!!

Winter in New England is a fairly strange time of year. Most people (normal people) spend a lot of time indoors in a sort of Flatscreen induced hibernation. Fueled primarily by the human instinct to survive, and a refrigerator full of beer and frozen dinners.

Chances are though, if you are reading this you fall into another group of people. A smaller group, who are a little different than the others. We’ll call you “the crazy people”. People who practice for running a marathon by running a half marathon the day before. People who run 4 miles to Danvers to run 3.1 miles, then run 4 miles back. People who say “yes it is pitch black out, yes it is New Years Eve, yes it is a snow storm, and OF COURSE I’m going to go running”

I had the good fortune of spending some time with 16 of you “crazy people” Wednesday night. I heard statements like, “lets do a pre-run”, “it’s not really that cold”, and my favorite “that beer is gonna taste great”. Truthfully though, I applaud the dedication you all show in consistently making the D5K such a great weekly affair. I know the days are not getting any warmer, but being crazy people that really shouldn’t matter to much. So keep stuffing into those “oh so” flattering spandex clothing and huttle around in the prayer circle, as we pray for a “cold wave”. Hooray for HEAD WIND.

On a more personal note: I am not really feeling so inspired in the writing department today. The above paragraphs feel a bit fragmented and run astray to me. So to compensate for my lack of interesting readable content, I made a special piece of D5K visual candy for your viewing enjoyment. I find a lot of inspiration in the winter, and originally wanted to put together a simple D5K logo that had a winter theme to it. Well, it got little out of hand, as so many things in our life can. I consider this my P.R. for the D5K logos, I really enjoy looking at it, and I hope you do as well. Now what am I gonna do next week? Maybe Live Polar Bears.
