Cody’s Closed; D5K Still Runs

The rumors are true. The D5K host, Cody Brewing Co, is closed.  This happened without forewarning and is a shock to us all.

It appears that Cody’s may reopen in the near future in another downtown location. But in the meantime, we still need to run… and drink.

So the plan for this Wednesday, the 25th, is to run the usual route starting from Cody’s (try and stop us) and then to adjourn to a nearby drinking establishment (tbd) to discuss next steps. We will announce this location at the start of the run and ALL are invited to come and talk about options.

Some ideas that have been thrown out for a new D5K host include Calitiris, Supinos, Onion Town, Village Green, Four 66, and the Texas Roadhouse (where we could watch Annie Rose do the boot-skootin boogie). We have been exploring course options from some of these locations and doing some scouting work on bars that are most likely to accomodate fifty sweaty people.

If you have ideas, feel free to post them as comments on this post. You should all make sure to subscribe to the D5K email updates so that you can stay informed as we move forward.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday night, promptly at 7′ish.

February 18, 2009

Mother Nature really loves us, and sees fit to prove it to us every single Wednesday. I swear at 6:05 p.m. it was clear out, at 7:00 p.m. as you know, basically a white out. She does like to keep it interesting for us. Regardless of the blinding conditions we still managed to drum up 27 brave souls. A respectful number of runners for the middle of a New England February. Along with our faithful group of regulars, we had 6 first time runners who chose this evening as a wonderful time to try out our course. They are as follows.

Rick Brandt. 17:24

Junyeng Pak. 18:37

Seth Anderson. 22:05

Sarah Brandt. 23:54

Stephan Leahy. 30:06

Barbara Previte. 30:06

Top honors in our mens category goes to James Pawlicki who ran a fairly respectable 17:19.

For the Femme Fatales it was Annie Rose Willis tonight finishing in style with a 21:57.

You never know what’s going to happen at the D5K. Every week is something different. This week however proved to be a little more different than most. As we, myself included found out on Wednesday, we are now Homeless. Cody’s is closing and moving to another location. It will still be in Danvers, and hopefully the transition will not take to long. After the shock and denial had worn off, I accepted and embraced the change. The D5k has gone through many changes and growth spurts in it’s short existence, and is much more than the four walls that served to house it. So looking forward I am excited to see where we take it from here. A new home? A new course? Who knows, maybe even some new popsicle sticks. So keep your heads up and your laces tight, because you just don’t know what lies just around the bend.

see ya next week,

adam.
