The D5K…Oh how sweet it is. We gave host to 46 runners this week. All of whom seemed to be drinking the Kool-Aid. We are by no means a “CULT” but I would say that we have a certain level of devoted followers. The first rule of “Run Club” is…”You do not talk about Run Club” and the second rule is…well you know the rest. If not, email my buddy Tyler Durden, and he will fill you in.

With days creeping ever so closer to November, nice weather seems to be something of the past. Not the case for this Wednesday, it was beautiful out, and the warmth was nice enough to hang around for a while after the sun called it a day. The temp. was perfect for a run, and run we did! All 46 out, all 46 back. There were not that many P.R.s tonight, only one that I am aware of. It seemed like one of those nights that everyone just wanted to enjoy the run and the weather for as long as they could. Granted Junyung Pak only enjoyed it for 19 minutes 17 seconds, still for him, that’s kind of taking it easy, as annoying as that sounds for me to write. We did however have quite a few new faces lining up around the punch bowl tonight. 9 first time runners as a matter of fact. All of whom seemed to have at the very least had the hint of a smile on there faces at the finish of the run. As for you 2 or 3 lappers out there, I may have to set up a special course just for you guys. Apparently I am not working you hard enough.

Enjoy whatever it is that gives you enjoyment, “other than giving me a hard time” and we will see you next Wednesday.

For all of you who couldn’t hang out to long after the run this week. You REALLY missed out on a special treat. “Someone” brought a bread maker with them and treated all who were remaining to fresh homemade bread. It was really something to experience. It definately put a smile on alot of our faces. I only wish the picture was Scratch n’ Sniff.

D5K Diversions

Well it looks like a couple of our D5k’ers got some ink in the paper. This is a photo of the Kiwanis 5 miler that took place SOMETIME this past summer. Who do you see? Well I see Colleen Ryan, and T.R. Ramsdell. I am sure everyone else some them too, or at least there backsides judging by the way they were taking off from the starting line.

Your Help Matters (please read)

* First off, please take the time to read the letter attached in this post *

WE WILL BE COLLECTING NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS WEEKLY FOR THE LOCAL FOOD BANKS AND HOMELESS SHELTERS.

For those of you who have been a part of the D5K for a long time, you are familiar with this collection. For those of you who are newer to our family, this is something we used to do on are regular ongoing basis. I take responsibility for not talking about it as much during the summer months, and having it kind of fizzle away for the most part.

This letter that i received serves as a wake up call to the positive impact and reach that our giving has had on other peoples lives. Beyond the running, beyond the laughs, and beyond the beers, we are a group who support and care about the community that hosts our run every week.

With the Winter months close at hand, there are a lot of people who could use a little extra help, and a little extra hope. So I ask you to keep that in mind next time you are at the grocery store, or fishing through your cabinets looking for the peanut butter, take a look around and see what you can bring with you to help someone else. Trust me, it goes a long way.

The D5K is a free run, open to all who want to participate, all we ask is that you help us help others. The returns are immeasurable.

Thank you, Adam.

There was certainly a little chill in the air tonight. It’s that time of the running season where it’s hard to pick out the right clothing, because once you start going you tend to warm up pretty quick. frank knows what I’m talking about. The scene in the parking lot before the start of the run reminded me of something out of (Close Encounters) It was very dark, with a group of lights and reflective stuff shining in all directions. With lots of indescribable noises being made. Then in a flash they all disappear, heading out into the night to do some human testing.

41 little aliens ventured out into the darkness this week. All of which found there way back to us safely, sometimes we suffer an abduction or two, but not this week. It was good to see some more old faces back here at the D5K. Danny Chick, Mike Toomey, and even Doug Whittemore showed up and slapped some pavement with us. “Great to see them all”

We were a little shy on PR’s this week, we racked up a total number of zero. We did however manage to lasso in one new runner this week. I hope she enjoyed the course and the post run entertainments. I guess you guys just can’t handle the new course.

We seem to be a man down at the moment. D5K staple, Aaron Toleos seems to have suffered a stress fracture in his foot, so he will be sidelined for a while. In true form though he showed up to root on all the runners and partake in some choice libations. Hopefully he will be back out there soon.

Well enjoy the weekend, good luck to all the D5k’ers taking part in the Baystate Marathon on Sunday, or any other races or drinking establishments you happen to find yourself at.
