Awesome.

For future reference, this is a very hilly course and it appears that the 10k course is a little long. Don’t go out too fast like I did.

All in all, considering the past few weeks climatic punishment of precipitation, I would say we had some rather good weather for our little run this week. Not that bad weather would deter runners like you from showing up anyway.

So as far as show ups go, we had 42 runners show up ready to taunt mother natures wrath and keep the D5K fire burning bright. With a special guest appearance and late run by our very own “Herbalicious”.

While we are on special guest appearances, I must send out some love to Aaron Toleos. Aaron brought down his son Adam to do the D5K, he is the fastest 7 month year old I have ever seen. Along with being the youngest official D5Ker, he did an exceptional job carrying his dads ass around the course. Good job Adam.

We had 3 first time runners this week, along with 3 personal records, so Kudos and welcome are in order.

Special thanks for there generosity this week got to:

Aaron Toleos

Alison Moore

Beth Picardi

Aaron and Alison each brought in a 12 pack of Sam Adams for your drinking needs. And of course Beth is very pro-hydration, by supplying us with a case of water to keep us all vertical after the run. Thank you guys very much.

see you next week.

Was there something in the Air? Maybe it was the upcoming inclement weather, or our new aerial advertising. Whichever, runners were crawling out of the woodwork tonight. We hosted a total of 60 runners this evening, the most we have had in quite some time. As well we were shy an easy half dozen regulars, so who knows what could have happened if everyone showed up.

Among the 60 runners, 7 of them were first first time D5K’ers, one of which “Henry Winfield” came in first place overall, not bad for his first time. There were 6 Personal Records sprinkled on top for a little extra flavor too.

Special thanks to the runners who came down representing Great Oak School, we hope you enjoyed the run.

We will see y’all next Wednesday.

It looks like we have five races to cover this weekend so I am going to try and do it all in this one post. Before I get into it, I want to highlight two performances: (1) Ben Goodhue ran three 5ks this weekend PR’ing on Saturday and placing 2nd 30-39 on Sunday, and (2) James Deluca who placed 3rd overall in his Saturday race (a PR I think) and 1st overall in his Sunday race.

Great job guys!

Friday - Winthrop Seaside Striders 5K Foot Race

Ben Goodhue appears to have been the lone D5Ker at this event, the first of three races for Ben over the weekend.

Saturday - Squirrel Run 5Miler in Quincy

Looks like it was a close finish. Like the sub-8s.

This is my second week in a row running a race where organizers failed to produce results. Still nothing on coolrunning and not holding my breath.

Here’s what I do know:

3 - James Deluca - (sub 18 and a pr?)

And the straight flush:

14 - Ben Goodhue (20:15, PR)
15 - Matt Adams (smiles as he passes TR)
16 - TR Ramsdell
17 - Frank Lanzillo
18 - Aaron/Adam Toleos (21:30, stroller)

Ben had both a fast and a smart race - starting last in our group and holding a steady 6:30 pace to beat us all in the end. Note my sub 7 pace while pushing the stroller - not too shabby, eh?

Sunday - Burlington Rotary & Meals on Wheels 5K

A one/two finish for Wicked members and D5Kers Deluca and Short. Ben Goodhue aka Gouchie placed 2nd in the 30-39s. Dean Malerba placed 1st in the 40-49s.

Junyong Pak must have really been listening when I was giving out some free pointers, because he laid down a 16:46 crushing the previous course record formerly held by “Junyong Pak” Not too bad.

It was a record night for our regulars. With Se7en of the 10 PR’s set by our faithful D5K’ers.

Diana Davis decided not only that tonight would be a good night to try the D5K for the first time, why not go ahead and be the first female finisher to boot. My knid of thinking.

A warm welcome to the 5 first timers who wore out some rubber on the D5K course on the fast path to glory and immortality.

Nice job done by all this week, I look forward to next Wednesday, who knows what could happen.

Well if you include Oliver the dog we had “12″ new runners this week. That may be a record, if not then certainly close to it. Throw “5″ Personal Records in there with the 50 runners that made up our field, and you got yourself a pretty good little Wednesday night.

Well if you include Oliver the dog we had “12″ new runners this week. That may be a record, if not then certainly close to it. Throw “5″ Personal Records in there with the 50 runners that made up our field, and you got yourself a pretty good little Wednesday night.

Special Kudos out to Aaron Toleos this week. He did his first D5K in his new Vibram 5 fingers. They are basically made to mimic barefoot running. Super Cool, look into them.

On a note, I would like to remind everyone that we are still collecting non-perishable food items for the local food bank. This goes a long way for the people who need a little help in these trying times, thank you to everyone for the support.

On yet another note, I am thinking about D5K t-shirts, and wanted some feedback on this weeks imagery as a potential shirt design. So if you are here on Wednesday let me know your thoughts.

Thanks, adam.

Our crew did great — especially Ramsdell who finished 7/112 in his age group and 119th out of almost 2000 runners. Way to go TR!

Here are the results:

First of all, congratulations to Dave Long who won the race AND set a new course record. Great job, Dave!

Second of all, those of you who have been around the D5K for a while will remember Chris Soucy who was a regular for most of last year but pretty much disappeared sometime last fall after the Wicked Half.

Well, I ran this race with Soucy last year (Soucy 20:56, Toleos 20:59), so I looked him up about a week before to make sure he would be there again this year. You see… he beat me by 3 seconds last year and I really wanted the opportunity for a rematch . I may have even posted a note on his wall in facebook telling him I was going to kick his ass.

Big, big mistake.

Check this out. Soucy pulls off an 18:15 — more than 2 1/2 minutes faster than last year!?!?! WTF?? Give me some of whatever that guy is having.

Here’s how we all finished:

Dave Long - 17:something

Chris Soucy - 18:15 (unofficial)

Aaron Toleos - 20:59 (unofficial)

Ben Goodhue - 21:15 (unofficial)

Dean Malerba - ???

NOTE: All the times are unofficial because no results have been posted. They apparently had a major malfunction with the chip timing so I don’t even know our places (besides Dave and Chris).

I pity the fool who doesn’t run the D5K….fool.

I try each week to come up with some creative way of implementing the D5K logo into some form of random but meaningful imagery. I find it to be very much like the act of running itself, you never know how you’re going to do until you start. Some finishes are better than others, couple that with the commentary, and sometimes it makes me want to move to the country and eat a lot of peaches. That being said, I hope the devoted readers do not mind to much the somewhat odd direction that is sometimes taken. I quote a phrase that is close to me, ” beware the path of commonness, for it yields the most roots” Any trail-runner can attest to the literal interpretation of this quote.

By the way we had 24 runners this week.

N-joy.
