tonights run (please read)

This is what’s happening at the D5K. Take a few minutes and read all the new stuff.

1. Cinco de mayo.

2. Deep tissue massage.

3. New protein drink.

4. Birthdays.

5. The weather.

6. The food bank.

7. The run fund.

8. Your D5K number.

1. Today is Cinco de Mayo. So feel free to run in a sombrero and drink Mexican beer.

2. Tamie Maffeo is a local massage therapist here in Danvers. She was nice enough to offer to come to the D5K this evening and bring her massage chair. She will be giving out sample massages and be available to answer any questions you may have, so you can have an injury free running season. ” Tamie will be at the run at 6 pm. So if you are interested in a massage it would be better to show up early so you won’t miss out, and avoid having to wait so long.”

3. The fine folks from Mix 1 will be here this evening handing out samples from there drink line, and looking for some feedback. You can check out there website to familiarize yourself with who they are and what there mission is. Mix1

4. So a few of our D5K’ers are having a hard time outrunning the hands of time. SO if you see them say Happy Birthday along with some kind of compliment on how good they look to try and cheer them up.

a. Doug Chick

b. Kevin Counihan

c. Miss Elizabeth Jones

5. The weather today is beautiful! Borderline perfect, and it will continue into the evening. So it should make for a really nice D5K tonight.

6. We support and help our community, as they support and help the D5K do what it does every week. The biggest way you can help support the run is with a donation of a non-perishable food item or two. These days you don’t have to look to far to see people who could use some help, and I for one find that to be simply unacceptable. I have seen first hand the impact that the generosity of the runners of the D5K have made, and I can humbly say that it is quite substantial. So I ask you to do what you can but remember this is not mandatory so there is no pressure.

7. I love the D5K, and put simply “you are the D5K” You make it what it is every week. It really does have a life of it owns, and I try my best to not get in its way and simply let it be what it is. There is a lot of “behind the curtain” stuff that goes on to keep the D5K running smooth. Some by me, some by Aaron, and to a good degree by you as well. Two people in particular however I wish to speak of more directly. Billy and Susan Prentiss. As we all know they enjoyably do a lot for the run, which I think is great. I don’t mind if they spend there time, I simply don’t want them spending there money to support the run. The D5K is a free fun run, and as far as I am concerned it always will be. Starting today there will be a basket of some form for monetary donations that go directly to the minimal costs of hosting the run at the level in which we have grown accustomed to having it at. This fund will go directly to the more social side of the D5K. Things like snacks, libations, bottled water, ice…and the such. Small items that offer a big return to the enjoyment we all share together. Another option that many others already take part in is bringing or making a little something for people to munch on. So whatever and however you feel like doing it, everyone’s support adds up.

8. We have a new timing program, which we have been transitioning to for a little while now. There will be a print out with your name and a number assigned to it. Think of it as your permanent bib number. Learn this number! Remember this number! When you finish just give me your number and I can enter it quickly. You will still be getting a popsicle stick for now. If you are a first time runner make sure that I am aware of it.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, I am always available. Thanks.
